Shafi Jan and Party Leaders Demand Court-Ordered Meetings While Protesters Denounce Police Action
Islamabad: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Information Minister Shafi Jan, along with party leaders, held a media briefing outside the Adiala Road factory on Tuesday, emphasizing their demands for government accountability and compliance with Islamabad High Court directives.
Shafi Jan said that every official has a responsibility to visit Adiala Jail, and those who fail to do so should be relieved of their duties. He criticized the government for allegedly violating the constitution and law while asserting that the party is acting within legal and constitutional boundaries.
The minister highlighted that the Islamabad High Court had ordered a meeting between Salman Safdar and the family of the detainee, and party leaders were summoned today for the same. He stressed that peaceful protests are the party’s right in case the meetings are blocked and clarified that no government resources were being used for the demonstration.
Noreen Niazi also addressed the media, questioning why the Punjab Assembly opposition leader and several party workers were arrested. She accused police of damaging vehicles and using excessive force against party supporters.
Alima Khanum stated that the party will continue its sit-in and confirmed that police had filled prison vans with detained workers.
The party emphasized that their actions are a legal response to restrictions on constitutionally mandated meetings and called on the state to ensure compliance with the law.
