Government move reshapes weekly schedule as official notification orders immediate enforcement across all departments
In a major administrative shift, authorities in Azad Jammu and Kashmir have officially abolished the long-standing Friday holiday, converting it into a regular working day following approval from the regional cabinet. The decision has triggered immediate implementation across government institutions.
According to official sources, the change was approved during the 40th Cabinet meeting and subsequently endorsed by the President of Azad Kashmir. Following the approval, the Services and General Administration Department issued a formal notification declaring Friday as a standard working day.
Under the new directive, all government offices across the region will now remain open on Fridays as part of the regular working schedule. The order takes effect immediately and applies uniformly to all public sector institutions.
The notification has been circulated to all administrative divisions, universities, and government departments to ensure compliance without delay. Key institutions including the Secretariat have been instructed to enforce the revised schedule.
Officials confirmed that senior authorities, including the Accountant General, Inspector General of Police, and other departmental heads, have also been formally notified to ensure strict implementation of the new working-week structure.
The policy change marks a significant shift in the administrative routine of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, aligning government operations under a revised weekly framework aimed at streamlining official productivity and governance.
