PML-N women’s wing leader criticizes KP government’s performance, contrasts it with Punjab’s development under Maryam Nawaz
PESHAWAR: A sharp political exchange has erupted after Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Sobia Shahid launched a blistering critique of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government, questioning its governance and drawing comparisons with Punjab’s development model.
In a strongly worded statement, Shahid, who serves as the provincial president of the PML-N Women’s Wing and a member of the KP Assembly, said that if the provincial leadership lacks the ability to govern, it should “learn from Punjab.” However, she added pointedly that “even copying requires a certain level of intelligence.”
Her remarks come amid intensifying political rhetoric between provincial leaders, as she praised Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif for what she described as a proactive and results-driven administration. Shahid claimed that Punjab is setting new benchmarks in public welfare, with development projects being launched regularly to benefit citizens.
In contrast, she argued that KP, despite being governed by the same political party for a third consecutive term, remains entangled in basic administrative and public service challenges. She criticized the provincial leadership for relying on political slogans rather than delivering tangible results.
“The people of Punjab are fortunate to have a dynamic and decisive leadership,” Shahid said, adding that governance in KP appears overshadowed by repeated political narratives, including references to “Prisoner 804,” instead of addressing pressing public concerns.
She further emphasized that effective governance requires more than rhetoric. “If the chief minister and his team are truly serious, they must demonstrate performance on the ground. Provinces cannot be run on claims and slogans alone,” she said.
Concluding her statement, Shahid appealed directly to voters, underscoring the importance of electoral choices. “A vote is not just a piece of paper—it determines the nation’s destiny. The right decision can define the difference between progress and decline,” she asserted.
The statement is likely to fuel ongoing political tensions in the province, as opposition parties continue to challenge the KP government’s performance ahead of future electoral contests.
