A powerful display of military resolve and national remembrance unfolded at General Headquarters (GHQ) on Saturday as Pakistan marked the first anniversary of Marka-e-Haq, with Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir delivering a strongly worded message on sovereignty, sacrifice, and regional security.
The emotionally charged ceremony brought together senior military officials, veterans, and families of martyrs, beginning with a visit to Yadgar-e-Shuhada where floral wreaths were laid and prayers offered for those who lost their lives. The atmosphere was deeply patriotic, marked by national songs and tributes that underscored the human cost of conflict.
Addressing the gathering in his capacity as Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces, Field Marshal Munir described Marka-e-Haq as a defining ideological confrontation, stating that “truth emerged victorious and falsehood was defeated.” He credited Pakistan’s success in Operation Bunyan-um-Marsoos to collective national resilience and divine support.
He paid tribute to the martyrs, including civilians who lost their lives, emphasizing that their sacrifice would never be forgotten. The army chief reiterated that Pakistan’s military and nation stand united in honoring those who gave their lives for the country.
A central theme of his address was national sovereignty. He asserted that there would be “no compromise on Pakistan’s sovereignty, border integrity and national dignity,” framing it as a shared commitment between state institutions and the public.
The Field Marshal also directed pointed remarks toward regional tensions, accusing India of attempting to alter the strategic balance in South Asia through military pressure and diplomatic isolation efforts. He stressed that such ambitions would not succeed, reinforcing Pakistan’s readiness to respond to any external challenge.
Highlighting operational claims, he stated that Pakistan’s forces had successfully targeted multiple enemy positions during the conflict, while reaffirming confidence in the country’s defensive posture. He declared Pakistan’s defense “completely invincible against any external aggression,” signaling strong deterrence messaging.
He further warned that any future escalation would carry “far-reaching and painful consequences,” underscoring the seriousness with which military leadership views regional stability and security threats.
The speech also reflected on the changing nature of warfare, with emphasis on cyber capabilities, drones, artificial intelligence, and multi-domain operations. He revealed the establishment of a new Defense Forces Headquarters aimed at modernizing Pakistan’s military structure for future conflicts.
Concluding the address, the Field Marshal highlighted strengthening defense cooperation with Saudi Arabia, calling the strategic mutual defense agreement a significant milestone in Pakistan’s diplomatic and security partnerships.
