Missing CCTV Footage Deepens Mystery in Karachi’s “Pinky” Protocol Scandal

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged.

It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.

KARACHI: A police inquiry into the controversial protocol allegedly provided to drug suspect Anmol alias “Pinky” during her first court appearance has uncovered serious irregularities, including the disappearance of crucial CCTV footage and lapses in police procedure.

The inquiry report, prepared by DIG West Irfan Baloch, was submitted to senior police authorities after statements from 17 police officers and personnel were recorded. Among those questioned were Karachi City SSP Ali Hassan and the SP Investigation City.

According to the findings, the district SSP, the SHO of Garden police station, and the station investigation officer were held responsible for the mishandling of the case. The report stated that suspect Anmol alias “Pinky” received unusual protocol during her transfer and court appearance, triggering criticism and damaging the reputation of the police department.

One of the most alarming revelations in the inquiry was the disappearance of CCTV footage from Garden police station. The missing footage reportedly covered the suspect’s arrival at the station and her movement to court, raising concerns about possible evidence tampering or procedural negligence.

The report recommended both departmental and legal action against Garden SHO Hanif Siyal. It also called for a separate investigation into his overall conduct during the incident.

Investigators further revealed that two suspended female police officers assigned to escort the suspect were not properly trained to handle high-profile accused persons. The report noted that they had not been informed about the suspect’s criminal background before being assigned the duty.

Additional procedural violations were also highlighted in the inquiry. Officials found that the suspect’s Criminal Record Office (CRO) formalities were not completed after her arrest, while investigation police were allegedly kept uninformed by operations police.

Meanwhile, the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) has launched a separate inquiry into two of its personnel over alleged connections with the suspect. According to CTD sources, Assistant Sub-Inspector Kafeel and Constable Ali Qureshi, both posted at Civil Lines, are being investigated for allegedly remaining in contact with Anmol alias “Pinky”.

The latest developments have intensified scrutiny on police conduct in high-profile criminal cases and raised fresh questions about accountability, evidence security, and internal coordination within Karachi law enforcement agencies.
