Polling begins across Gilgit-Baltistan as authorities finalize security and logistics for a crucial assembly election.
Gilgit-Baltistan is on the edge of a decisive political moment as polling preparations are fully completed for the region’s legislative elections, with officials confirming that voting will begin at 8 a.m. and continue until 5 p.m. without interruption.
Across all 24 constituencies, 958,000 registered voters are expected to cast their ballots, marking one of the most closely watched electoral exercises in the region’s recent history. The Election Commission has confirmed that all polling staff have reached their assigned stations, ensuring readiness for a smooth and orderly process.
A total of 1,389 polling stations and 2,450 booths have been established to facilitate voters. Of these, arrangements include separate and joint booths designed to manage male, female, and combined voter turnout efficiently. Security forces and administrative teams have also been deployed to maintain peace during polling hours.
In a competitive field, 404 candidates are contesting 24 assembly seats, including a dominant share of independent contenders, signaling a fragmented and highly competitive race.
Observers say the outcome will play a defining role in shaping the political direction of Gilgit-Baltistan for the next five years, as parties and independents vie for influence in the region’s future governance.
