A brutal acid attack inside a major public hospital in Quetta has left a young doctor critically injured and ignited widespread protests over security failures in healthcare facilities.
A horrifying incident at Civil Hospital Quetta has shaken the medical community after a young female doctor was subjected to a severe acid attack while on duty in the surgery ward. The assault triggered immediate panic and raised serious questions about safety inside public healthcare institutions.
According to hospital sources, Dr Mahnoor Nasir was targeted when an attacker approached her office, knocked, and threw acid on her as she stepped out. She suffered extensive burns across her face, chest, and limbs, with doctors confirming that nearly 70 percent of her body was affected. She was first given emergency care, later transferred to a private facility, and then airlifted to Karachi for specialized treatment.
Police launched a swift search operation and located the suspect during an attempted escape. Officials said he engaged in a gunfire exchange with law enforcement and was killed on the spot. A weapon and ammunition were recovered from his possession.
The attack sparked outrage among doctors, nurses, and paramedical staff, leading to strikes and protests inside the hospital. The Young Doctors Association condemned the incident, calling it a major security lapse and demanding immediate reforms to protect medical professionals in public hospitals.
