Ayase Ueda scored twice as Japan delivered a dominant performance against Tunisia, making history in the 1,000th FIFA World Cup match and strengthening its position in Group F.
Japan celebrated a landmark moment in FIFA World Cup history with a commanding 4-0 victory over Tunisia in Monterrey, Mexico, turning the tournament’s 1,000th match into a memorable showcase of attacking football.
The Samurai Blue started at full speed and took the lead just four minutes into the contest. A swift move down the wing ended with Keito Nakamura providing a precise cutback for Daichi Kamada, who calmly finished to put Japan ahead. The early goal set the tone for a one-sided encounter as Tunisia struggled to cope with Japan’s relentless pressure.
Japan continued to dominate possession and create chances throughout the first half. Their persistence paid off in the 31st minute when Ayase Ueda produced a brilliant low strike from outside the box, doubling the lead and giving Tunisia a mountain to climb.
Any hopes of a comeback disappeared after the break. Kamada turned provider in the 69th minute, releasing Junya Ito with a perfectly weighted pass before the winger calmly scored Japan’s third goal. Ueda then completed his brace six minutes from full time, heading home from Kaishu Sano’s delivery to seal an emphatic victory.
The result moved Japan to four points in Group F, level with the Netherlands, while Tunisia’s second consecutive defeat confirmed its elimination from the tournament. The performance also underlined Japan’s growing reputation as one of the most dangerous teams in the competition.
