Pakistan Petrol Pump Association says it was not consulted on the proposed daily fuel pricing mechanism and warns of a nationwide strike if the policy is not withdrawn.
Pakistan’s fuel retail sector has raised strong objections to the government’s reported plan to determine petroleum product prices on a daily basis, with the Pakistan Petrol Pump Association rejecting the proposal and demanding its immediate withdrawal.
Speaking on the issue, Pakistan Petrol Pump Association representative Nauman Butt said the government should reverse the decision without delay. He warned that the association would launch a nationwide strike next week if the policy is not withdrawn.
Butt alleged that the government made the decision in coordination with oil marketing companies but failed to consult other stakeholders, including petrol pump owners. He said the association was not taken into confidence before the reported policy decision.
Criticizing the government’s approach, Butt said authorities should avoid making what he described as “unwise decisions” without consulting industry stakeholders. He also accused the government of attempting to hide its shortcomings through the proposed pricing mechanism.
