Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed authorities to limit power load shedding to two hours in any area amid disruptions to RLNG supplies.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday took notice of increasing power load shedding in different parts of the country and directed authorities to ensure that no area faces more than two hours of outages.
The prime minister expressed displeasure over the rising duration of load shedding in various cities while chairing an important review meeting on power load management in the country.
During the meeting, officials briefed the prime minister that recent developments in the region, tensions in the Strait of Hormuz and transmission-related difficulties had affected the supply of re-gasified liquefied natural gas (RLNG).
According to the briefing, disruptions in RLNG supplies had contributed to a decline in power generation, making load management necessary to maintain a balance between electricity demand and supply.
Taking note of the situation, Shehbaz directed relevant authorities to take immediate measures to address disruptions in RLNG transmission while keeping the region’s evolving situation and future requirements in view.
The prime minister also instructed authorities to make effective use of all available resources to minimize the impact of power shortages.
He specifically directed that load shedding should not exceed two hours in any area.
The directives come as authorities manage electricity demand and supply amid challenges affecting fuel availability and power generation. The government has emphasized the need for efficient use of available resources to reduce the burden of outages on consumers.
