PDMA has warned of rain across Punjab until September 17, with urban flooding and landslide risks in several areas, while other parts of Pakistan may also receive thunderstorms.
Punjab is bracing for the ninth and final spell of monsoon rains, with the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) warning of rainfall across several districts from Sept. 12 to 17.
The latest weather system is expected to affect different parts of the province, with authorities urging residents to remain cautious during periods of heavy rain. The PDMA has specifically warned of the risk of urban flooding in Rawalpindi, Lahore, Gujranwala and Faisalabad.
The authority has also cautioned that hilly areas, including Murree and the Galiyat region, could face landslides during the spell. Residents have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel during severe weather and follow precautionary measures issued by authorities.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), a westerly weather system, along with moist currents from the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal, is expected to bring scattered rain, wind and thunderstorms to parts of the country from Sept. 13 to 17. The latest flood bulletin said isolated heavy falls were also possible in parts of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan.
Most plain areas of the country are expected to remain hot and humid during the day. However, rain accompanied by strong winds and thunderstorms is likely in parts of upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, the Potohar region and southeastern Sindh during the evening and night.
Some areas of southeastern Sindh could also experience dust storms, heavy rain and hail.
Islamabad and surrounding areas are expected to remain partly cloudy, with chances of strong winds and thunderstorms accompanied by rain during the evening or night.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, hot and humid weather is expected to persist in most districts, while Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Shangla, Kohat, Kurram, Bajaur, Mohmand and Khyber may receive rain and thunderstorms.
Several Sindh districts, including Tharparkar, Mirpurkhas, Badin, Hyderabad and Khairpur, are also expected to receive rain from the evening of Sept. 13 through Sept. 16.
