Police in Khanewal have arrested a woman and her brother after a man was allegedly set on fire over a dispute involving his second marriage in Mian Channu.
KHANEWAL: A man was critically injured after allegedly being doused with petrol and set on fire while sleeping in his room in Chak 134-16L, within the jurisdiction of Sadar Police Station Mian Channu, Khanewal district. Police have arrested the alleged main suspect, identified as Naseem Akhtar, and one of her brothers.
According to initial reports, the incident was linked to a dispute over the victim’s second marriage. The victim, identified as Muhammad Aslam, was reportedly sleeping in his room when he was attacked.
Police said they received an emergency call through the 15 helpline from a resident of Chak 134-16L, who reported that his stepbrother had been set on fire inside a room.
Following the alert, police teams immediately reached the scene and initiated legal proceedings and an investigation into the incident.
According to the victim’s family, Naseem Akhtar, along with her brothers and other relatives, allegedly poured petrol over Muhammad Aslam and set him on fire. The family said the attack was linked to resentment over Aslam’s second marriage.
The victim suffered severe burns to different parts of his body. He was initially shifted to the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital in Mian Channu for emergency medical treatment.
However, due to his critical condition, doctors referred him to Nishtar Hospital in Multan for further treatment.
District Police Officer Khanewal Muhammad Abid took immediate notice of the incident and directed police officials to ensure the prompt arrest of those involved.
Police have confirmed the arrest of Naseem Akhtar and one of her brothers. Further investigation and legal proceedings are underway to determine the circumstances of the attack and establish the involvement of other alleged suspects.
The investigation is ongoing, while Muhammad Aslam remains in need of specialised medical care following the severe burn injuries.
