Punjab has introduced a Green Credit Program aimed at encouraging citizens to take part in environment-friendly activities while also providing them with financial incentives.
Under the program, citizens can earn green credits for activities including collecting plastic bottles, using electric bikes or scooters, identifying smoke-emitting vehicles, planting trees, conserving rainwater and cycling.
Up to Rs10,000 for collecting plastic bottles
According to the information provided, citizens can receive up to Rs2,500 for collecting one kilogram of empty plastic bottles under the program.
A citizen can collect a maximum of four kilograms of plastic bottles. If the prescribed quantity is completed, the total financial benefit can reach up to Rs10,000.
The initiative is designed to encourage people to prevent plastic waste from entering the environment while giving them a financial incentive for recycling-related activity.
Financial incentives for electric bikes and scooters
The program also includes incentives for citizens who use electric bikes or scooters.
According to a media report, citizens purchasing an electric bike can receive Rs50,000, while an additional Rs50,000 will be provided after the electric bike is driven for up to 6,000 kilometers.
This means the total financial incentive under the stated conditions could reach Rs100,000.
38 environment-friendly activities included
The Punjab Green Credit Program covers a total of 38 environment-friendly activities, according to the provided information.
These include reporting smoke-emitting vehicles, reporting smoke-emitting brick kilns operating without zigzag technology, conserving rainwater, planting 10 saplings and using bicycles.
The inclusion of multiple activities allows citizens to contribute to environmental protection through different forms of participation rather than focusing solely on recycling.
