ISLAMABAD: Security forces killed at least 12 militants linked to Fitna al-Hindustan after they launched coordinated attacks on key installations in Balochistan’s Kharan district, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said on Tuesday.
According to the military’s media wing, between 15 and 20 terrorists carried out multiple attacks in the Kharan city area, targeting the city police station as well as branches of the National Bank of Pakistan and Habib Bank Limited. During the assaults, the attackers looted approximately Rs3.4 million in cash.
The ISPR said security forces responded swiftly and effectively, forcing the militants to retreat. A subsequent clearance operation was launched, during which 12 terrorists were killed at three different locations in and around the city.
The statement added that the militants had planned to create a hostage-like situation at the police station; however, their attempt was successfully thwarted due to the timely response of security personnel.
Operations are still ongoing in the area and its surroundings to ensure the complete elimination of any remaining terrorist elements, the ISPR said.
Reaffirming its commitment under the vision of Azm-e-Istehkam, the Pakistan Army, in coordination with law enforcement agencies, vowed to continue counter-terrorism operations with full force until all forms of foreign-sponsored terrorism are eradicated from the country.
