LAHORE: (Click Pakistan) Basant has come back to Lahore bringing about a frenzy of kite selling and kite flying gear sales taking place throughout Punjab but with the provincial capital frontline. Sellers have claimed that the first day kite and knitstrips sales have surpassed Rs.150 million as people gear up to the traditional spring feast.
The legal assistant of Kite Flying Association (KFA), Malik Faizan, said the demand shot up in the run-up to Basant indicating that people are eager to attend the cultural event this time. He revealed that over 400,000 kites were sold on the first day alone and about 15,000 spools of kite string were sold in Lahore and the environs.
Prices of kites differ depending on size and quality (Faizan). Big kites are being sold at approximately Rs500, medium size kites at Rs300 and small ones at Rs200. He observed that wholesalers and street vendors have recorded good business with most of the shops registering shortages because of unanticipated demand.
Basant associated trade has been revived to offer a short term financial relief to small traders, manufacturers as well as seasonal employees. Nevertheless, officials still emphasize the necessity of safety and compliance with the rules in order to avoid the accidents associated with kite flying.
Basant celebrations are likely to experience a rise in the next few days and more gains to sales may be anticipated.
