ISLAMABAD: (Ayesha Naz) A suicide attack struck an Imam Bargah “Khadija tul Kubra” in Islamabad’s Tarlai area on Friday, killing 12 worshippers and injuring more than 80, authorities said.
Police sources confirmed that the attacker, identified as a foreign national affiliated with the extremist group Fitna al-Khawarij, was intercepted at the mosque gate. When security personnel attempted to stop him, he detonated explosives, causing widespread casualties. Officials emphasized that the attack has no connection to the religion of Islam.
Emergency services quickly transported 60 injured individuals to Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) and 11 to Polyclinic Hospital. Multiple hospitals, including PIMS, Polyclinic, and CDA Hospital, have declared emergencies, with staff leaves canceled to manage the surge of casualties. Assistant commissioners have been deployed to oversee treatment and care of the wounded.
The blast site has been fully cordoned off as police and security agencies continue their investigation. Authorities have warned residents to remain calm and rely only on verified information.
