Senate Committee Reviews Food Security, Agricultural Development, and Farmer Welfare Plans
ISLAMABAD:The Senate Standing Committee on National Food Security and Research convened at Parliament House to review key proposals related to Pakistan’s agricultural development and food security strategy, officials said.
The meeting focused on the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) proposals for 2026-27, the performance of the National Agri Trade and Food Safety Authority, and ongoing agricultural and livestock development projects. Lawmakers discussed measures aimed at improving food safety standards, strengthening agricultural trade, and enhancing productivity in the farming sector.
Awami National Party (ANP) President and Senator Aimal Wali Khan attended the session and emphasized the importance of sustainable agricultural growth and comprehensive food security policies. He stressed the need for effective safeguards to protect the rights of farmers, particularly those belonging to underdeveloped and marginalized regions.
Khan called for targeted development initiatives to support small-scale farmers and livestock breeders, highlighting their critical role in ensuring national food stability. He also urged authorities to improve policy implementation mechanisms and allocate adequate resources to boost rural agricultural infrastructure.
