PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Higher Education Department has imposed a ban on male faculty members meeting female students in their offices across all public sector universities in the province.
According to an official letter issued by the department the directive has been communicated to all government universities as part of measures aimed at strengthening safeguards for female students. Under the new policy male teachers are no longer permitted to hold one on one meetings with female students in private office settings.
The department has instructed universities to designate at least one female faculty member in every department. The nominated faculty member will be responsible for addressing the concerns complaints and academic issues of female students.
In addition universities have been directed to organize seminars at least once every quarter. These sessions will focus on raising awareness among students about the legal framework related to protection against harassment including relevant laws and complaint mechanisms.
Officials stated that the move is intended to ensure a safer and more comfortable academic environment for female students while promoting institutional mechanisms for grievance redressal.
The directive is expected to be implemented immediately across all public universities in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
