Pakistan-Austria agreements focus on trade, skilled workforce, technology, and youth empowerment
Vienna, Austria – Pakistan and Austria have agreed to expand bilateral cooperation in trade, investment, technology, and skilled labour during Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s official visit to Vienna. The visit marks the first by a Pakistani premier in over three decades and coincides with the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held detailed talks with Austrian Chancellor Christian Stocker at the Federal Chancellery, reaffirming commitments to strengthen historic ties. Both leaders discussed economic development, trade, investment, tourism, education, IT, healthcare, and human resource development. They also co-chaired a high-level Pakistan–Austria Business Forum, focusing on enhanced government-to-government and business-to-business cooperation.
Shehbaz Sharif invited Austrian companies to invest in renewable energy, mining, agriculture, and IT. He highlighted Pakistan’s youth, with 60% of the population under 30, and emphasized training and international certification to provide skilled labour for European markets. He also offered Austria collaboration in agriculture technology and value addition, including citrus processing and food exports.
Addressing a business roundtable, Shehbaz Sharif stressed Pakistan’s commitment to curbing illegal migration while ensuring legal, skilled labour flows to Europe.
The visit sets the stage for a new chapter in Pakistan–Austria relations, strengthening economic and human resource partnerships for mutual growth.
