The Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) has summoned national players and team management following reports of alleged administrative mistreatment during the Pakistan hockey team’s recent tour of Australia.
A video circulating on social media showed players being provided with substandard facilities during the tour. Upon returning home, national team captain Imad Butt stated that the team was given poor accommodation and that players had to wash their own utensils and clothes.
Imad Butt also refused to continue working with the current management and urged the PHF to take immediate action, stressing that there is very little time left before the upcoming World Cup.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had earlier taken notice of the issue concerning the alleged poor treatment of the national hockey players.
Players and Officials Called for Inquiry
According to PHF sources, senior players including Imad Butt and Hannan Shahid have been invited for a meeting. Head coach Tahir Zaman, along with coaches Usman and Zeeshan Ashraf, have also been summoned.
Sources say the federation will review the players’ complaints and hear the management’s stance before making a final decision. The team is scheduled to depart for Egypt within two days to participate in the World Cup qualifying round next week.
PHF President Tariq Bugti will reportedly listen in detail to concerns regarding accommodation and other arrangements before consulting with his think tank to take action against those found responsible.
Additionally, players may also be questioned about their recent poor performances and the large number of goals conceded during the tour. PHF President Tariq Bugti and Secretary Rana Mujahid are expected to announce the final decisions in a press conference.
