PM’s adviser says his remarks were linked to protest-day developments, denies formal negotiation authority to opposition figures
ISLAMABAD: Rana Sanaullah, adviser to the prime minister, clarified that his recent remarks about rejecting a “deal” were made in the context of developments surrounding the Nov. 24 protest.
Speaking to a private television channel, he said his comments referred specifically to the situation during the protest, when the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) remained firm on his stance and showed no willingness to demonstrate flexibility.
Sanaullah added that claims by PTI regarding granting negotiation authority to Raja Nasir Abbas and Mahmood Khan Achakzai were “meaningless,” asserting that neither individual had been formally empowered to negotiate.
According to the prime minister’s aide, Achakzai had been offered a meeting with the premier but did not accept the proposal. He maintained that the government had already extended an offer of a charter aimed at ensuring Pakistan’s political and economic stability.
The clarification comes amid ongoing political tensions following the protest, as both the government and opposition continue to trade statements over dialogue and reconciliation.
