ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Tariq Fazal Chaudhry on Tuesday outlined the government’s position on recent actions in Afghanistan telling the Senate that Pakistan would deliver a full response to cross border militancy.
Addressing the upper house the minister said Pakistan had targeted multiple locations across three Afghan provinces citing what he described as a background of repeated warnings to Afghan authorities regarding infiltration and militant activity. He asserted that attacks in areas including Tarlaai Bannu and Bajaur had links to elements operating from Afghan territory.
Chaudhry stated that Pakistan had conveyed its concerns through diplomatic channels, adding that militant sanctuaries and training facilities remained a key issue. He noted that Islamabad was prepared to cooperate on border security mechanisms but stressed the need for firm guarantees against interference.
The minister reiterated that Pakistan sought peace and stability in the region but would not compromise on national security. He said recent air operations were intelligence-based and targeted, with reports indicating significant militant casualties.
Officials previously confirmed that Pakistan carried out retaliatory strikes against suspected militant centres in Nangarhar Paktika and Khost as part of ongoing counterterrorism efforts aimed at curbing cross-border threats.
