Heavy Rain Forecast for Several Pakistani Cities as PMD Warns of Urban Flooding

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged.

It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecast heavy rain accompanied by strong winds and thunderstorms across several parts of the country, with urban flooding and landslides expected in vulnerable areas.

Islamabad, Rawalpindi and several cities in Punjab face a risk of urban flooding, while heavy rainfall in mountainous areas could trigger landslides, according to the weather department.

Authorities have particularly warned of possible flooding in streams and drains in Islamabad and Rawalpindi, including the Nullah Lai. Low-lying areas of Gujranwala, Sialkot and Lahore could also experience water accumulation following heavy rainfall.

Rain in the twin cities earlier Sunday disrupted electricity supplies in several areas. A rain emergency has been imposed in Rawalpindi, while heavy machinery has been deployed to drain water from low-lying areas.

According to the weather department, rain is expected in several districts of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Azad Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan and Balochistan.

Lahore, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Gujrat, Faisalabad and Multan are likely to receive rain accompanied by strong winds.

Most districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including Peshawar, Mardan, Swat, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Kohat and Dera Ismail Khan, are also expected to receive rainfall.

The department has warned of landslides in Murree, the Galiyat region, mountainous areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir due to heavy rain. The landslides could disrupt traffic and access routes in affected areas.

Weather outlook for Sindh and Balochistan

Most parts of Sindh and Balochistan are expected to remain hot and humid. However, Zhob, Khuzdar, Musakhel and Barkhan may receive thunderstorms and rain.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department and local administrations have advised residents and tourists to avoid unnecessary travel during periods of heavy rain and exercise extra caution in mountainous and low-lying areas.
