A major fire that broke out at a textile factory in the SITE Area of Karachi has been brought largely under control, with officials confirming that approximately 80 percent of the blaze has been extinguished. Authorities stated that the situation is now stable as firefighting operations continue.
Chief Fire Officer Humayun Ahmed said emergency teams are working to fully contain the fire within the next one to one and a half hours. He noted that chemicals used for cloth dyeing were present inside the facility, which increased the intensity and complexity of the firefighting efforts.
Firefighters prioritized securing the factory’s boiler to prevent a potentially catastrophic explosion. Officials emphasized that a boiler blast could have resulted in severe damage to nearby structures and posed significant risks to human life.
Earlier, the incident was declared a third degree fire, prompting the deployment of multiple fire tenders, snorkel units, and water tankers from across the city. Emergency response teams remained on site to prevent the flames from spreading.
Meanwhile Sindh’s Inspector General of Police Javed Alam Odho directed police units to immediately reach the affected location and secure the surrounding areas. Law enforcement personnel established safety perimeters to assist rescue and firefighting operations.
