Iran’s UN ambassador accuses Washington and Tel Aviv of aggression and violations of international law, lauding Pakistan, Russia, and China for opposing the actions
HAMILTON: Iran’s ambassador to the United Nations on Saturday vehemently denounced the United States and Israel, accusing both of waging “a war against the Charter of the United Nations” during an emergency session of the UN Security Council, Anadolu Agency reported.
Iranian Ambassador Amir Saeid Iravani said Tehran had repeatedly warned the Council and Secretary‑General about what he termed “warmongering statements and interfering actions in the internal affairs of Iran by the President of the U.S.,” which he called violations of the UN Charter and international law.
Describing the actions against Iran as “a clear act of aggression,” Iravani labeled them “an open armed aggression against the Islamic Republic of Iran.” He asserted that the U.S. and Israel’s conduct was not just directed at Tehran but against the UN Charter and the global legal order.
Iravani expressed gratitude to Russia, China and Pakistan for their “principled position” in condemning what he described as unlawful acts, while sharply criticizing other Council members for double standards.
He called the reported toll on civilians “a war crime and a crime against humanity” and accused U.S. envoy Mike Waltz of “distorting facts” to justify what Iravani claimed were baseless accusations. He also rejected Western concerns over Iran’s nuclear program as lacking legal or factual foundation.
The emergency session was convened at the request of France, Bahrain, China, Russia and Colombia amid rising regional tensions.
