Russia has voiced deep concern over the intensifying clashes along the Afghanistan Pakistan border warning that ongoing fighting is severely affecting civilians. In a statement on March 4 Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said Moscow is closely monitoring the situation and is alarmed by the escalation.
According to Russian authorities, the confrontations have involved heavy weapons and aircraft, signaling a serious rise in hostilities along the frontier, particularly in areas inhabited by Pashtun tribes on both sides of the border. Casualties have been reported from both Afghanistan and Pakistan although exact numbers remain unconfirmed.
Civilians including recently returned Afghan refugees from Pakistan and Iran, are facing displacement, fear and disruption to daily life. The Russian government described the situation as humanitarianly concerning emphasizing that continued fighting could worsen conditions for thousands of vulnerable families.
Moscow urged both Kabul and Islamabad to exercise restraint and resolve disputes through dialogue rather than military action. Zakharova stressed that negotiations should be conducted on the basis of mutual respect and cooperation.
The Afghanistan Pakistan border has long been a sensitive region, with militant activity security incidents and political tensions frequently escalating into violence. Russia’s warning highlights the urgent need for peaceful resolution to prevent further civilian suffering.
