Iranian President stresses diplomacy and regional stability during phone call with Pakistan’s Prime Minister.
TEHRAN/ISLAMABAD: Masoud Pezeshkian told Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday that Iran has no intention of engaging in conflict with countries in the region, according to Iranian media reports.
During a telephone conversation, Pezeshkian emphasized that failure by the international community to hold those responsible for wars accountable could create serious risks for global peace and stability. He reassured Pakistan that Iran seeks cooperation and stability with its neighbors rather than confrontation.
Sharif expressed concern about the growing tensions in the region and reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to diplomacy and dialogue to promote peace. He stressed that all sides should demonstrate restraint and responsibility to prevent further escalation.
The prime minister also highlighted Pakistan’s historical, religious, and cultural ties with Iran, reaffirming Islamabad’s intention to expand cooperation with Tehran across multiple sectors.
“Pakistan is committed to promoting engagement and collaboration with Iran at all levels,” Sharif said, emphasizing the importance of sustained diplomatic contacts.
Pezeshkian echoed similar sentiments, noting that both countries should work closely to strengthen regional peace, stability, and development. The Iranian president also briefed Sharif on Tehran’s perspective regarding recent regional developments.
Both leaders agreed to continue consultations and maintain high-level engagement to advance shared goals of cooperation and stability.
Earlier, Sharif also wrote to Mojtaba Khamenei, offering condolences over the death of Ali Khamenei and expressing solidarity with the Iranian people and the broader Muslim world.
