Authorities mobilise drainage teams in Lahore while PMD warns of thunderstorms, strong winds and possible hail in several regions.
Lahore: The Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) has been placed on high alert following rainfall in Lahore, with emergency field teams mobilised to ensure the rapid drainage of accumulated water across the city.
On the directives of the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Lahore, all disposal stations have been made fully operational while drainage machinery has been activated to prevent urban flooding. Authorities have instructed staff to keep major highways, underpasses and low-lying areas clear to maintain smooth traffic flow.
Officials said field teams are working around the clock to remove rainwater and ensure that disposal stations operate at full capacity during the ongoing spell of rain. The DC Lahore stated that all efforts are being made to minimise inconvenience for citizens.
Residents have also been advised to stay away from exposed electric wires and poles during the rainfall to avoid accidents.
Meanwhile, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted partly cloudy weather with strong winds and thundershowers in several parts of the country on Thursday.
According to the forecast, Islamabad, Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan and the Pothohar region may experience rainfall, with isolated hailstorms possible. In Punjab, rain accompanied by gusty winds is expected in Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Mianwali, Jhelum, Gujrat, Lahore, Gujranwala, Murree and Galiyat.
Most areas of Sindh and Balochistan are likely to remain hot and dry, while Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan may see scattered showers with thunderstorms.
