Sindh minister Nasir Hussain Shah says the decision aims to facilitate religious observance while the government introduces cost-saving reforms across departments.
KARACHI: The Sindh government has declared a public holiday across the province on Jumma-tul-Wida, the last Friday of the holy month of Ramadan.
Sindh Local Government Minister Nasir Hussain Shah made the announcement in a video message, saying the decision aims to allow citizens to fully participate in special prayers and religious gatherings held on the sacred day.
In the same statement, the minister revealed that a major road in Karachi will be named after Iran’s late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, honoring his legacy.
Addressing upcoming religious events, Shah reminded organizers that processions and rallies will not be allowed on Shahrah-e-Faisal in accordance with court directives. He urged Shia organizations to strictly follow their traditional procession routes to ensure peace and order in the city.
Separately, the provincial government has introduced a four-day workweek for public offices as part of administrative reforms. Under the new schedule, government departments will operate from Monday to Thursday, while Friday, Saturday, and Sunday will be official holidays.
Officials said the step aims to reduce operational costs and improve efficiency. As part of broader austerity measures, the government has also decided to cut fuel consumption for official vehicles by 50 percent, while maintaining essential services across departments.
Authorities believe these steps will help save public funds while improving productivity within government offices.
