Pakistan’s security forces killed five militants during an intelligence-based operation in Lakki Marwat district on Sunday according to a statement issued by the military’s media wing, Inter Services Public Relations.
The operation was carried out on March 15 after security agencies received credible intelligence about the presence of militants linked to Fitna al Khawarij in the area. Acting on the information, troops launched the operation and surrounded the suspected location.
According to the statement security forces effectively engaged the militants leading to a heavy exchange of fire. After the intense confrontation five militants were killed during the operation.
The military said a cache of weapons and ammunition was recovered from the slain militants, who were reportedly involved in several attacks against security forces and civilians in the region.
Officials added that a sanitisation operation is currently underway in the surrounding areas to ensure that no militants remain hidden. The effort is part of Pakistan’s broader counter-terrorism campaign conducted under the vision of Azm e Istehkam.
The statement emphasized that Pakistan security forces and law enforcement agencies remain committed to eliminating terrorism and ensuring peace and stability across the country.
