Emergency teams quickly control the blaze near Dubai International Airport as authorities temporarily halt flights to ensure passenger safety.
WEB DESK: A fire that erupted near Dubai International Airport following a drone strike was swiftly contained, authorities in the United Arab Emirates confirmed on Monday.
According to The Express Tribune, the incident struck a fuel tank close to the airport perimeter, triggering a large blaze near one of the world’s busiest aviation hubs and prompting a rapid emergency response.
Emergency response contains blaze
Teams from Dubai Civil Defence rushed to the site in the early hours after the drone impact ignited the fuel tank. In a statement posted on X, the Dubai Media Office said the “drone-related incident” was quickly brought under control.
Officials confirmed that the fire was contained without injuries. Emergency crews remained at the site to conduct cooling operations and prevent any further flare-ups.
Flights briefly disrupted
As a precaution, the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority temporarily suspended flights at the airport to ensure the safety of passengers and staff.
Several incoming aircraft were diverted to Al Maktoum International Airport, while Emirates confirmed short-term disruptions to its flight schedule.
Rising regional tensions
The incident comes amid rising regional tensions, with Gulf states reporting increased missile and drone interceptions in recent weeks. Although advanced air defence systems intercept most threats, the proximity of this strike to critical civilian infrastructure has raised fresh security concerns.
Airport operations have since begun returning to normal as authorities continue to monitor the situation.
