Official Moon Sighting Confirms Eid al-Fitr 1447H on March 21 Across Pakistan
Lahore: Pakistan’s Ruet-e-Hilal Committee announced that the new moon for Shawwal 1447H will not be sighted on Thursday evening. Secretary General of the committee confirmed that the moon will be visible starting Saturday, March 21, 2026, marking the first day of Shawwal.
As a result, Eid al-Fitr will be celebrated across Pakistan on Saturday, March 21, 2026, after completing 30 days of Ramadan. The Secretary General noted that the new moon was born on Thursday morning at 6:23 AM.
The age of the moon at sunset on the 29th of Ramadan will be less than 13 hours in all regions of Pakistan, falling short of the minimum 19 hours required for sighting. Furthermore, the time difference between sunset and moonset will be 26 minutes in Karachi and 30 minutes in Peshawar, while the minimum interval needed for visibility is 40 minutes.
“The astronomical conditions confirm that the crescent will not be sighted on Thursday evening, and Eid celebrations will commence on Saturday across the country,” the Secretary General added.
Citizens are advised to follow official announcements from the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee for local prayers and Eid arrangements.
