Balochistan Grand Alliance announces an indefinite shutdown of government offices and educational institutions after arrests during protests.
A major protest movement has intensified in Balochistan as the Balochistan Grand Alliance announced the closure of government offices across the province following the arrest of employees during demonstrations.
The alliance said the shutdown will continue indefinitely, with both government departments and educational institutions remaining closed. Leaders claimed that government employees have been protesting for their rights for the past two years and have now decided to expand their movement.
Following the announcement, protest rallies and demonstrations started in several districts, creating uncertainty over public services across the province. The alliance also announced a hunger strike camp outside the Quetta Press Club on June 19.
The protesters have urged President Asif Ali Zardari, Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, and Faryal Talpur to take notice of the situation in Balochistan. They alleged that restrictions have been imposed on press conferences, protests, and corner meetings.
According to the alliance, police used tear gas during a peaceful protest and detained several government employees. The group has demanded the release of arrested workers and action over the crackdown.
