KP Chief Minister Sohail Afridi met Ayat Noor’s father in Haripur, offered condolences and pledged strict action against those responsible.
HARIPUR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi visited the home of Ayat Noor in Haripur on Saturday and met her grieving father, offering condolences and expressing solidarity with the family.
The chief minister performed Fateha and assured the family that the provincial government would provide its full support in the case. He was accompanied by a local member of the provincial assembly and KP Information Minister Shafi Jan.
Ayat Noor’s father thanked everyone who had stood by his family and appealed to the authorities to award the harshest possible punishment to those responsible for his daughter’s death.
He called for the main accused in the case to be publicly executed.
Speaking to the media, Afridi became emotional and said the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa shared the family’s grief.
“This was not just your daughter; she was our daughter,” Afridi said, condemning the treatment allegedly inflicted on the child.
The chief minister vowed that those found responsible would be given exemplary punishment so that others would think many times before committing such an act.
He said the government would extend its full support to the family and that there would be no negligence in handling the matter.
Afridi also questioned the effectiveness of the administration and police, saying that if children were not safe despite the presence of government offices and law enforcement agencies, those responsible should be held accountable.
He promised that all individuals found involved would face strict punishment and appealed to the courts not to grant relief to the accused in the case.
The chief minister further announced that the proposed Child Protection Bill would be named after Ayat Noor. He also said Swat Chowk would be associated with Ayat Noor’s name.
During the visit, Ayat Noor’s father embraced Afridi and became emotional.
The chief minister also handed over a Rs10 million check to Ayat Noor’s father as financial assistance for the family.
