Deadly Gul Plaza Fire in Karachi Kills Six, President Zardari Orders Immediate Relief

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged.

It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.

KARACHI: President Asif Ali Zardari has expressed profound grief over the deadly fire at Gul Plaza in Karachi that has claimed at least six lives, injured several others, and caused extensive damage to commercial property.

In a statement issued by the President’s Office, Zardari offered condolences to the families of the victims and directed the Sindh government and concerned authorities to ensure immediate relief and medical assistance for the injured. “No effort should be spared in providing the best possible medical facilities to those injured,” the president said, praying for the speedy recovery of the wounded and patience for bereaved families.

Senator Sherry Rehman, vice president of the ruling Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP), also mourned the loss of life and highlighted the severe economic impact on traders and employees whose businesses were destroyed. She stressed the need for strict enforcement of urban safety laws and the establishment of a modern fire safety system, calling for a thorough investigation into the incident.

Provincial Local Government Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah confirmed that a firefighter lost his life while battling the blaze. Speaking from Sukkur, he said the Sindh chief minister had taken notice of the incident and ordered action against those responsible for negligence.

Rescue officials said four portions of the building have collapsed since the fire erupted around 10:30 p.m. Firefighting operations continue amid fears that some individuals may still be trapped under the rubble.
