TikTok has quietly launched a new standalone app called Pine Drama, signaling a strategic shift toward scripted entertainment and a move beyond its roots in user-generated short videos.
The app, now available in the United States and Brazil on both iOS and Android, is dedicated entirely to micro-dramas — fictional series told through one-minute episodes designed for rapid, binge-style viewing. Pine Drama is currently free and ad-free, though monetization options may be introduced in the future.
Pine Drama blends TikTok’s familiar swipe-based interface with episodic storytelling. Users can explore content through a Discover tab featuring “All” and “Trending” categories, or scroll through a vertically infinite recommendation feed tailored to viewing habits. Genres include romance, thriller, family drama and suspense, with popular titles such as Love at First Bite and The Officer Fell for Me.
The platform also offers watch history, favorites, comments and a full-screen viewing mode that removes captions and sidebars for a more immersive experience.
The launch follows TikTok’s introduction of “TikTok Minis” late last year, a micro-drama section within its main app. With Pine Drama, TikTok is now directly competing with established micro-drama platforms like ReelShort and DramaBox.
Industry analysts say micro-dramas are one of the fastest-growing segments in entertainment, with annual revenue projected to reach $26 billion by 2030. By embracing short, addictive storytelling, TikTok is betting on micro-dramas as its next major growth engine.
