Dera Ghazi Khan: A serious misconduct allegation against a police officer has surfaced in southern Punjab after a woman from Choti Zerin accused a serving station house officer of repeated sexual assault during a public hearing attended by senior police officials.
According to police sources, the complainant, identified as Tabassum Abbas, appeared before the Regional Police Officer (RPO) during an open court session and alleged that Rajanpur SHO Abrar Ahmed Barmani sexually assaulted her on four separate occasions.
The woman told officials that the alleged incidents took place over a period of time and demanded immediate legal action against the police officer. Her appearance at the public hearing drew significant attention, prompting senior authorities to take notice of the allegations.
Following the complaint, the RPO ordered the registration of a criminal case against SHO Abrar Ahmed Barmani. Police authorities also confirmed that the accused officer has been “closed to line,” a departmental term used for removing an officer from field duties pending inquiry and legal proceedings.
The case has intensified scrutiny over police accountability and the handling of misconduct allegations involving law enforcement personnel in Punjab. Rights activists and civil society voices have repeatedly called for transparent investigations in cases where abuse of authority is alleged.
Officials have stated that further legal and departmental action will be taken in light of the investigation findings. No formal statement from the accused officer has yet been released publicly.
