LAHOREThe International Cricket Council (ICC) will hold a key virtual meeting with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) today to determine whether Pakistan will play against India in the T20 World Cup on February 15 in Colombo. Sources indicate that Bangladesh Cricket Board President Aminul Islam has also arrived in Lahore to participate in discussions and has met PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi.
According to insiders, the PCB has formally informed the ICC that while the Pakistani government has approved participation in the World Cup, it has not granted permission to play against India. Meanwhile, the Sri Lanka Cricket Board has urged PCB to reconsider its stance, warning that canceling the match could result in financial losses.
Following the meeting, Chairman Naqvi is expected to consult Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to receive final instructions. The PCB is also set to discuss financial matters and previous disagreements with the ICC during the session.
The presence of Bangladesh’s cricket chief is considered significant, as the dispute initially arose when Bangladesh requested the ICC not to schedule its match against India—a request that was subsequently denied by the ICC.
