Iran says it is open to immediate negotiations with the United States but insists the removal of naval restrictions is essential for meaningful diplomacy
Iran has set a clear precondition for resuming negotiations with the United States, demanding an end to what it describes as a naval blockade before any diplomatic engagement can take place.
According to statements reported by Tasnim News Agency, Iran’s Ambassador to the United Nations, Amir Saeid Iravani, said Tehran is ready to return to the negotiating table immediately once the maritime restrictions imposed by Washington are lifted.
He emphasized that Iran remains open to a political solution but warned that the country is equally prepared for escalation if tensions continue. “If they want to sit on the table and discuss and find a political solution, they will find us ready. If they want to go to war, in this case also, Iran is ready for that,” Iravani said.
The Iranian envoy also accused the United States of violating the terms of the existing ceasefire, arguing that Washington must halt actions Tehran considers breaches of the truce before any talks can move forward.
The remarks come at a time of heightened uncertainty despite a recent extension of the ceasefire between the two sides. The continued enforcement of restrictions on Iran’s maritime trade routes remains a major point of contention, complicating efforts to revive diplomacy.
Iran has consistently criticized the naval measures as hostile and counterproductive, maintaining that negotiations cannot occur under pressure. The latest stance underscores the fragile nature of the current ceasefire and raises questions about the prospects for a diplomatic breakthrough.
