Clashes between residents and law enforcement leave multiple injured as anti-encroachment drive continues in Noorpur Shahan.
Violence erupted in Islamabad on Tuesday after an anti-encroachment operation by the Capital Development Authority in Noorpur Shahan near the Bari Imam Shrine met strong resistance from local residents. Officials said at least eight police personnel and dozens of villagers were injured during the clashes as tensions escalated rapidly in the area.
According to officials and local accounts, demolition teams arrived in Noori Bagh Mohallah to remove structures declared illegal. Hundreds of residents, including women and children, gathered at the site and attempted to block the operation by throwing stones at enforcement teams, forcing an initial withdrawal. Two government vehicles were also set on fire during the confrontation.
Police later deployed additional anti-riot units and resumed the operation. Authorities used tear gas and baton charges to disperse crowds as the situation intensified. Residents accused security forces of excessive force, including alleged pellet firing, a claim that has not been confirmed by officials.
By late evening, demolition activity continued in parts of Noori Bagh Mohallah, as authorities said the drive was part of an ongoing campaign to remove encroachments in the area. Several structures were reportedly razed amid the continuing operation.
Security remained tightened across the locality, with around 1,000 personnel deployed and key access routes sealed. Police also conducted search operations in nearby areas and detained several individuals as efforts continued to restore order and prevent further escalation in Islamabad’s Margalla Hills vicinity.
