LAHORE: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has indicated that a decision on Pakistan’s participation in the T20 World Cup match against India will be made shortly following a formal appeal from Bangladesh.
Speaking to the media Naqvi confirmed that Bangladesh had requested Pakistan to reconsider its position. Bangladesh has asked us to play the match. Their matters with the ICC should be resolved. We took a stand for Bangladesh and supported their position he said.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) expressed gratitude to Pakistan praising the PCB for its exemplary sportsmanship and solidarity during a difficult time. BCB President Aminul Islam said the move would benefit global cricket and strengthen ties between the two boards.
The match had been in doubt after Pakistan announced a boycott of its February 15 group stage fixture against India in protest at Bangladesh being excluded from the tournament following ICC’s rejection of its relocation request. Pakistan had linked any reconsideration to consultations with the ICC and the Prime Minister.
Naqvi’s remarks suggest negotiations may have advanced toward a breakthrough. With broadcast and scheduling pressures mounting Pakistan is expected to announce its final position within hours a decision that could significantly impact the tournament and the wider cricketing landscape.
