Islamabad: The federal government of Pakistan has initiated preparations to provide petrol subsidies to low-income individuals during the ongoing energy crisis.
Under the federal government’s directives, the Ministry of Information Technology (IT) has developed a mobile application to distribute the petrol subsidy, which is currently in the testing phase.
Sources indicate that the subsidy will be provided primarily to two- and three-wheeler vehicles, while price increases in the global market will be passed on to other consumers.
It is reported that a decision has not yet been made regarding vehicles up to 800cc. A petrol quota will be allocated for two- and three-wheelers, with a proposal to provide motorcycles up to 20 liters of petrol per month.
The plan also includes assigning nozzles for the subsidy at 12,000 petrol pumps nationwide, with each pump equipped with two mobile phones. Petrol will be dispensed through these mobile phones via the subsidy app.
