Pakistan is bracing for an intense spell of extreme weather as authorities warn of a prolonged heatwave followed by an approaching rain system that could bring sudden relief to northern regions.
The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued an impact-based advisory stating that severe heat conditions will continue across much of the country until June 12. Temperatures are expected to remain well above seasonal norms, raising concerns over heat-related illnesses, water shortages, and strain on electricity demand.
Southern regions, including Sindh, southern Punjab, and Balochistan, are likely to face the harshest conditions, with scorching daytime temperatures persisting. Residents have been urged to limit outdoor exposure and maintain hydration, particularly during peak afternoon hours.
In contrast, a weather shift is expected from June 11 as a new system moves into northern Pakistan. Rain and gusty winds are forecast for Islamabad, northern Punjab, and parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including Rawalpindi, Lahore, Sialkot, and surrounding districts. While the rainfall may provide temporary relief from the heat, localized windstorms could disrupt daily life.
Sindh and most of Balochistan are expected to remain hot and dry, although light rain and thunderstorms may affect select northeastern districts.
The transition highlights a sharp contrast in weather patterns across the country within days, keeping both heatwave risks and storm impacts on alert.
