Petrol pump owners across Pakistan demand urgent government intervention to avoid nationwide fuel shortage.
ISLAMABAD: Thousands of petrol pumps across Pakistan could halt operations if the government fails to address critical industry concerns, the All Pakistan Petroleum Pump Owners Association (APPOA) warned Wednesday.
In an official statement, the association said it had sent a fresh letter to Federal Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervaiz Malik, requesting an urgent meeting. The letter follows an earlier communication sent on March 6, which reportedly received no response.
The APPOA highlighted “serious operational, financial, and policy-level challenges” facing the petroleum sector. Sudden policy shifts have added to the difficulties, complicating the management of daily operations for pump owners. The association urged the government to involve industry stakeholders in policy-making decisions.
Around 14,000 to 15,000 petrol pump owners nationwide are affected, according to the statement. The association warned that failure to act could force these owners to close their outlets, potentially triggering a severe fuel shortage across the country.
“This situation threatens to disrupt fuel supply to millions of Pakistanis,” the statement read, emphasizing that the Ministry of Petroleum would bear responsibility for any resulting crisis.
Analysts say a nationwide shutdown could strain transportation, logistics, and essential services, highlighting the urgency for dialogue between authorities and the petroleum sector.
