Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has praised the growing agricultural cooperation between Pakistan and China, calling for deeper scientific collaboration, modern research partnerships, and expanded opportunities for young agricultural professionals.
Addressing a workshop on Pakistan-China agricultural cooperation during his visit to China, the prime minister said it was an honour for him and the people of Pakistan to visit a globally respected agricultural research institution known for its contributions to food security, scientific innovation, and modern farming practices.
Shehbaz Sharif expressed gratitude after being awarded an honorary professorship by the Chinese institution, describing it as a prestigious recognition that reflected the strong academic and scientific ties between the two countries. He said the honour was not only personal but a matter of pride for the entire Pakistani nation.
The premier noted that Pakistan and China are celebrating 75 years of diplomatic relations, describing the anniversary as a historic milestone in bilateral ties. He referred to China as Pakistan’s “great friend” and stressed the importance of transforming the long-standing “iron brotherhood” into practical progress across agriculture, industry, scientific research, and strategic development sectors.
The prime minister emphasised that agreements signed between the two countries in the agricultural sector must produce visible and sustainable outcomes through long-term cooperation and implementation.
Highlighting the importance of innovation and human resource development, Shehbaz Sharif said Pakistan must strengthen its agricultural research institutions, empower young talent, and integrate modern technologies into rural and agricultural development.
He proposed broader involvement of international academies, scientists, and professors in Pakistan’s agricultural progress, adding that the country possesses significant local talent capable of delivering strong results when provided with proper support and training.
The PM also suggested that the Chinese agricultural institution could play a leading role in Pakistan’s research projects and institutional development over the medium and long term. According to him, such collaboration would help improve research standards and produce sustainable agricultural growth.
In a major announcement, Shehbaz Sharif proposed sending 1,000 Pakistani agricultural graduates to Chinese universities for advanced education and training. He said the programme would be conducted strictly on merit to ensure transparency and high-quality outcomes while equipping young professionals with modern agricultural skills and technologies.
The prime minister further revealed that his meetings with Chinese leadership were productive and successful, with both sides agreeing to accelerate development under the China–Pakistan Economic Corridor framework. He noted that agriculture has once again become a major focus area within CPEC cooperation.
Shehbaz Sharif also said China would continue supporting Pakistan in achieving economic self-reliance and praised Pakistani students studying in China, calling them “bright stars” and an important bridge for the future of Pakistan-China relations.
