PML-N leader and former Muridke municipal chairman Sheikh Shabbir Ahmed was shot dead near Muridke while traveling to his Lahore home, police said.
MURIDKE: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader and former municipal chairman Sheikh Shabbir Ahmed was shot dead by unidentified armed attackers near Muridke in Sheikhupura district, police said.
According to police, Sheikh Shabbir Ahmed had left his flour factory after completing his work and was traveling by car toward his home in Lahore. When he reached near Muridke on the Grand Trunk Road, unidentified armed men allegedly lying in wait opened fire on his vehicle.
Police officials said the attackers were traveling in a car and suddenly targeted Sheikh Shabbir Ahmed’s vehicle. He sustained critical injuries in the shooting and died at the scene.
The attackers fled immediately after the incident. Police teams reached the site after receiving information and began collecting evidence as part of the investigation.
The victim’s body was shifted to the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital in Muridke for legal formalities and a post-mortem examination. Family members and political associates also reached the hospital after learning of his death.
The killing has caused concern among local political circles, while fear and uncertainty were reported in the surrounding area following the shooting.
Police said investigators are examining the incident from different angles and obtaining CCTV footage from cameras installed at the crime scene and nearby locations. The footage is expected to assist authorities in identifying the attackers.
Officials said the identities of the suspects have not yet been established. Investigation teams are examining available evidence and other information to trace those involved in the attack.
The motive behind the killing also remains unclear. Police said they are investigating multiple possible angles to determine the circumstances and reasons behind the attack.
