PTA has directed families to either block or legally transfer SIM cards registered in the names of deceased individuals to prevent misuse and potential security concerns.
ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has issued an important public advisory, urging citizens to immediately block mobile SIM cards registered in the names of deceased individuals or transfer them to eligible legal heirs to prevent potential misuse.
According to the authority, SIMs registered under the names of deceased persons can only be transferred to blood relatives or spouses through the prescribed Change of Ownership process. The move aims to strengthen security measures and reduce the risk of unauthorized use of mobile connections.
PTA stated that family members seeking ownership transfer must visit the nearest customer service center or authorized franchise of the relevant mobile operator. Applicants will be required to provide a Family Registration Certificate (FRC), death certificate, the original SIM card, and evidence of SIM usage.
The authority warned that failure to block or transfer such SIMs in a timely manner could expose families to legal complications and security risks. Unauthorized use of SIM cards registered to deceased individuals may lead to misuse in unlawful activities, making proper record updates essential.
