Punjab Petrol Subsidy Disburses Rs320 Million to Bikers as Deadline Nears

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged.

It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.

Digital verification ensures transparency as Punjab’s largest direct fuel subsidy program continues

LAHORE:The Punjab government’s petrol subsidy scheme continues to deliver financial relief to motorcyclists, with Rs.320 million disbursed so far among bikers across the province as the deadline to avail the facility approaches.

According to Director General Excise Punjab Umar Sher Chattha, the initiative, launched on April 6, has benefited more than 105,000 motorcyclists, each receiving Rs.2,900 under the subsidy program.

The scheme has also led to a remarkable 150% increase in motorcycle ownership transfers. Officials said the average daily number of transfers has surged from 3,000 to around 8,000, reflecting improved compliance and documentation trends.

Chattha said bikers registered on the “Maryam Ko Batain” mobile application are receiving Rs.2,000 directly after verification of their documents by the Excise Department, ensuring a transparent distribution mechanism.

He added that data of approximately 85,000 commercial vehicles with complete token tax, route permits and documentation has also been shared with the federal government, strengthening regulatory coordination.

Authorities estimate that the total disbursement under the scheme may exceed Rs.700 million by its conclusion. Citizens can avail the subsidy until May 5, 2026, making it the final opportunity for eligible applicants.

The scheme was introduced at a time when global crude oil prices have crossed $100 per barrel, making fuel increasingly unaffordable for low- and middle-income groups in Pakistan.

Officials said the primary objective is to provide targeted relief to vulnerable segments while also improving records of unregistered or untransferred vehicles across Punjab.

Unlike previous initiatives that faced transparency concerns, the use of digital verification through the mobile application and Excise Department databases has enabled direct payments to deserving beneficiaries.

As of April 23, 2026, the program is being described as the largest direct petrol subsidy initiative in Punjab’s history, contributing to both public relief and improved revenue tracking and database management within the Excise Department.
