Leaders emphasize peace, unity, and rejection of violent protests amid rising misinformation
ISLAMABAD: A senior Pakistani Shia cleric has strongly rejected circulating rumors about a recent meeting with Chief of Army Staff Syed Asim Munir, calling them misleading and harmful to national cohesion.
Allama Syed Ishtiaq Hussain Kazmi, President of Shia Ulema Council North Punjab, said the discussions were “constructive and positive,” countering claims spread on social media. He accused certain elements of distorting facts to create division among the public.
Kazmi stated that the army chief acknowledged the contributions of leadership martyred in Iran and spoke respectfully about Iran’s supreme leadership, reflecting a tone of diplomatic balance.
During the meeting, both sides emphasized that violent protests and acts of vandalism within Pakistan would not be tolerated. Munir reportedly stressed that damaging national institutions under the pretext of foreign conflicts is not an act of patriotism.
Kazmi warned citizens against falling for unverified information, urging restraint and responsibility in the current sensitive regional environment. He said hostile forces are attempting to exploit digital platforms to widen internal rifts.
“Pakistan’s peace and unity are non-negotiable,” Kazmi said, calling for solidarity across all schools of thought. He urged the public to prioritize stability over emotional reactions and reject propaganda.
