In Karachi Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has announced the construction of a new Sukkur Rohri bridge over the Indus River to improve connectivity and reduce traffic congestion in the region. The announcement was made during the 51st meeting of the Public Private Partnership Policy Board, where several major infrastructure projects were approved.
According to the spokesperson, the board also approved key reforms aimed at increasing private sector investment in Sindh’s development projects. The new bridge will be approximately 1.5 kilometers long and feature multiple lanes, with separate pathways for heavy vehicles and pedestrians to ensure smooth and safe movement.
Murad Ali Shah stated that the bridge will strengthen links between Sukkur Rohri and surrounding areas significantly easing traffic pressure on existing routes. Sindh Local Government Minister Nasir Shah highlighted that currently, the main crossing point is the historic Lansdowne Bridge which cannot accommodate heavy traffic.
With Sukkur Barrage expected to remain closed for public movement until 2027 due to repairs, the new bridge is expected to greatly improve traffic flow and emergency services access.
